Why Do Teams Switch from SYSPRO?
SYSPRO is a manufacturing and distribution ERP. Teams that stay on it value its lot traceability, serial tracking and bill of materials handling. In 2026, one event has put every SYSPRO customer in front of the same decision.
1. The 2026 licensing change. SYSPRO is discontinuing its Initial and Annual Licence Fee model. A formal notice dated 15 July 2026 says existing licences expire on 31 October 2026 for customers outside the US and on 31 December 2026 for customers in the US. After that, "you will no longer be able to access Syspro" unless you enter a new named-user subscription agreement (syspro.com). If your expiry date was 31 October 2026, raise the data export with SYSPRO now. If you are outside the US and have not decided, talk to your SYSPRO account manager now. For the detail on both dates, see SYSPRO Licence Change 2026: Deadlines Explained.
2. No published subscription price. The notice states no price, and SYSPRO publishes none. You cannot compare the subscription against an alternative until SYSPRO quotes you. The notice also does not say past licence fees are credited against a subscription. For the stay-or-move decision itself, see SYSPRO Licence Expires 2026: Subscribe, Stay or Move.
3. Integration and bulk data access. SYSPRO's e.net business objects suit integration, not bulk data movement. The Syspro OData Service is read-only, and SYSPRO's 2021 R2 help says it limits responses "to 5000 rows" and pages with $top and $skip (help.syspro.com). For the full set of routes, see How to Export Data from SYSPRO: Methods, API Limits & Portability.
4. Customisation that will need rebuilding anyway. Custom reports, e.net integration wrappers and custom form definitions do not move to any other ERP. They are rebuilt in the target system's tools. If a move is coming at some point, the licensing change makes now a natural time to scope that rebuild.
[For PMs] You should evaluate alternatives if:
- Your SYSPRO licence expires in 2026 and you have not signed a subscription
- The subscription quote SYSPRO gives you does not fit your budget
- You hit the OData row limit when you sync SYSPRO data to a data warehouse
- You are planning a multi-entity or multi-country rollout
- You have significant e.net customisation that will need rewriting whichever system you choose

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Business Central is Microsoft's ERP. SYSPRO customers who already use Microsoft 365 tend to look at it first.
What Microsoft documents:
- Manufacturing needs the Premium experience. With it, you "use production BOMs to define components, routings to define operations, and work and machine centers to model capacity and costs" (learn.microsoft.com).
- You "can assign serial numbers, lot numbers, and package numbers to outbound and inbound documents" (learn.microsoft.com).
- Integrations are "typically created using standard REST API" through Business Central's API (v2.0) (learn.microsoft.com).
- Microsoft documents on-premises deployment topologies, where Business Central Server and the SQL Server database run on your own computers (learn.microsoft.com).
Where SYSPRO may still fit better: if your plant depends on SYSPRO-specific manufacturing behaviour, test it in a Business Central demo with your own BOMs and routings. Do not take either vendor's word for it.
Migration from SYSPRO: there is no native SYSPRO import. Microsoft's item tracking guide says to "use configuration packages to import data to the journals" for bulk imports (learn.microsoft.com). For the field-level walkthrough, see SYSPRO to Dynamics 365 Business Central Migration Guide. For a side-by-side view, see SYSPRO vs Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Best for: Microsoft-centric manufacturers and distributors whose production needs fit Business Central Premium.
Acumatica Cloud ERP
Acumatica is a cloud ERP that does not price by user seat. Its pricing page headlines "Unlimited Users" and says "Acumatica's cost is based primarily on the number of applications you implement." It adds that customers "adjust resource levels and data storage as you add users and increase transactions" (acumatica.com).
That model is the main reason SYSPRO customers with many occasional users look at Acumatica. SYSPRO's new model is named-user (syspro.com). Ask Acumatica how your transaction volumes map to resource levels before you sign.
Where SYSPRO may still fit better: if your manufacturing processes are complex, test them in an Acumatica demo with your own data.
Migration from SYSPRO: no native SYSPRO import exists. See SYSPRO to Acumatica Migration: A Technical Guide and SYSPRO vs Acumatica.
Best for: growing companies with many shop-floor, warehouse or field users who want cost tied to what they implement, not to seats.
Oracle NetSuite
NetSuite is Oracle's cloud ERP. Its OneWorld option lets you "use a single NetSuite account to manage records and transactions for multiple subsidiaries conducting business across multiple tax jurisdictions involving multiple currencies" (docs.oracle.com). Each subsidiary has its own base currency, and data rolls up into consolidated reports in a parent subsidiary's currency.
In SYSPRO, each company's data sits in its own database (help.syspro.com). If you run several SYSPRO companies and want them in one account, this is the feature to test.
[For engineering] API and integration: NetSuite governs web services and RESTlet concurrency at the account level. "The account governance limit covers the total number of web services and RESTlet requests combined" (docs.oracle.com). Plan load throughput around your account's limit.
Migration from SYSPRO: related data, such as WipJobAllMat rows linked to WipMaster jobs, needs careful staging. See SYSPRO to NetSuite Migration: A Technical Guide.
Best for: companies with several legal entities, currencies or tax jurisdictions that want them in one account.
SAP Business One
SAP Business One is SAP's ERP for small businesses. SAP says it covers "accounting and financials, purchasing, inventory, sales and customer relationships to reporting and analytics". It serves "wholesale distribution, light manufacturing to retail and professional services", with "cloud or on-premise" deployment options (sap.com).
Where SYSPRO may still fit better: SAP's own description says "light manufacturing". If you run multi-level BOMs with detailed routings, test them in a demo before you commit.
Migration from SYSPRO: custom form data in SYSPRO plus tables needs a matching custom-field design in Business One before the load. See SYSPRO to SAP Business One Migration: A Technical Guide and SYSPRO vs SAP Business One.
Best for: small manufacturers and distributors that want SAP and can choose between cloud and on-premise.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is SAP's cloud ERP for larger organisations. SAP calls it "a flexible ERP solution with embedded AI to drive productivity and efficiency across your finance, supply chain, HR, and sales business processes" (sap.com).
It fits organisations that have outgrown a mid-market ERP, or groups that already run SAP elsewhere.
Best for: enterprise manufacturers with the budget and team for a full SAP programme.
Infor CloudSuite Industrial
Infor CloudSuite Industrial is Infor's ERP for industrial manufacturers. Infor says its CloudSuites for industrial manufacturing "deliver deep industry-specific functionality, an open platform, and AI agents that work across ERP, production, supply chain, asset management, and finance" (infor.com).
Best for: industrial manufacturers that want an industry-specific suite. Ask Infor to demonstrate your production modes and multi-site needs with your own data.
Odoo
Odoo is a modular business suite. Odoo describes it as "a suite of open source business apps that cover all your company needs". Its pricing page lists three plans: One App Free, Standard and Custom (odoo.com).
[For engineering] API and integration: Odoo's external API is "easily available over XML-RPC". The documentation also says "Access to data via the external API is only available on Custom Odoo pricing plans" and is "not available on One App Free or Standard plans" (odoo.com). If you plan to load SYSPRO data through the API, price the Custom plan.
Where SYSPRO may still fit better: if you rely on deep lot traceability or complex multi-level BOMs, prove them in Odoo with your own data before you commit.
Migration from SYSPRO: see SYSPRO to Odoo Migration: A Technical Guide. For the reverse view, see Top Odoo Alternatives (2026): TCO, Features & Migration Paths.
Best for: cost-sensitive businesses with in-house technical capacity and straightforward manufacturing.
QAD Adaptive ERP
QAD Adaptive ERP is QAD's ERP for manufacturers. QAD's site lists EDI, Quality Management, and Inventory and Traceability among the Adaptive ERP modules. It lists industries including automotive, life sciences, and food and beverage (qad.com).
Best for: manufacturers in those industries. Ask QAD to show how EDI and quality management work for your trading partners and your audits.
Other Options on Most Shortlists
We make no feature or licensing claims about the systems below here: ask each vendor for current details. Each one has a SYSPRO migration page, and the first two have a technical guide:
- Epicor Kinetic: SYSPRO to Epicor Kinetic, the technical guide and SYSPRO vs Epicor Kinetic
- Sage X3: SYSPRO to Sage X3 and the technical guide
- IFS Cloud: SYSPRO to IFS
- Plex: SYSPRO to Plex
- MRPeasy: SYSPRO to MRPeasy
Smaller Manufacturers: Inventory Apps and Accounting
Some SYSPRO sites are small enough to split the job. They run an inventory and manufacturing app next to accounting software. Here is what each vendor says about itself:
| Option | What the vendor's own pages say | Source | SYSPRO migration page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Katana | "Track lots, serial numbers, and expiry dates from supplier to customer"; lists a QuickBooks Online integration | katanamrp.com | SYSPRO to Katana |
| Fishbowl | "Manage simple to complex manufacturing processes"; inventory software for QuickBooks and Xero | fishbowlinventory.com | SYSPRO to Fishbowl |
| SOS Inventory | "Lot & Serial Number Tracking"; "Build and manage assemblies with structured bills of materials" | sosinventory.com | SYSPRO to SOS Inventory |
| Global Shop Solutions | "ERP Software for Manufacturers", with cloud and on-premise ERP platforms | globalshopsolutions.com | SYSPRO to Global Shop Solutions |
| QuickBooks Online | Inventory supports FIFO only. Intuit's developer guide lists tracking by serial number and by stock location as not supported | developer.intuit.com | SYSPRO to QuickBooks |
| Xero | Online accounting software | xero.com | SYSPRO to Xero |
Moving to accounting software only is a real step down from a manufacturing ERP. Read SYSPRO to QuickBooks Online Migration: A Technical Guide for what does and does not carry over.
How to Compare Total Cost
This guide gives no prices. Vendors change them, and most mid-market ERPs are quoted per deal. SYSPRO publishes no subscription price (syspro.com). So build your own comparison from written quotes:
- Licence model: per named user, per user type, per application or resource level, or per module. Ask what changes the price at renewal.
- Modules you need: manufacturing, advanced inventory, warehouse management and multi-entity features are separate items in some products.
- Implementation: the new ERP's configuration and rollout, by the vendor or a partner. It takes months, so get it quoted separately.
- Rebuilds: custom reports, integrations and custom forms from SYSPRO.
- Data migration: a separate, smaller line. See What a SYSPRO Migration Costs in 2026.
How Hard Is It to Migrate from SYSPRO?
No target ERP offers a native "import from SYSPRO" tool. Every migration extracts data from SYSPRO, transforms it to the target's data model, and loads it through the target's import tools or APIs.
SYSPRO 8 stores its data in Microsoft SQL Server. "SYSPRO supports multiple companies where each company's data is contained within a single database", plus one system-wide database. SYSPRO's guide says "Each SYSPRO 8 company database contains approximately 1000 tables" (help.syspro.com).
Extraction routes, in the order we recommend:
- A one-off, read-only SQL extract of the company database, ideally against a restored copy. SYSPRO's best-practice guide says "connecting to the SYSPRO databases directly using SQL drivers is not advised" (help.syspro.com). That warning is about live integrations, so use a read-only login against a copy, not the live system.
- The read-only Syspro OData Service where SQL access is not possible. SYSPRO says it "is the only mechanism available when applications need access to SYSPRO data in the Syspro Cloud ERP environment" (help.syspro.com). Plan for the 5,000-row limit per call.
- e.net business objects for integration, not bulk extraction.
For the trade-offs, see SYSPRO e.net Business Objects or Direct SQL for Extraction and the SYSPRO SQL Table Map for Migration.
Two separate clocks. The data migration (extract, transform, load and validate) typically takes 1 to 5 business days, depending on data volume, complexity and API rate limits. The ERP implementation (selecting, configuring and rolling out the new system) is a separate project measured in months. The vendor or an implementation partner runs it.
The Biggest SYSPRO Migration Pitfalls
1. Archived data lives outside the live database. SYSPRO can archive sales orders, jobs and ECC bills of materials. Archiving copies purged data to XML files, and "no 'additional' attached information (such as custom forms, multimedia, notes, etc) is archived" (help.syspro.com, SYSPRO 7 Update 1 help). Archive files are named Xyynnnnn.XML (help.syspro.com). Check for them before you extract. See How to Archive SYSPRO History Before Switching ERP.
2. Custom plus tables need manual mapping. Custom form data is stored per form type. SYSPRO's example is that custom form data for ArCustomer "is stored in a table named 'ArCustomer+'" (help.syspro.com). No target ERP finds these on its own. Create the matching custom fields in the target before the load. See SYSPRO Custom Form Fields: Migrating Plus Tables.
3. Lot and serial history may already be purged. The lot Purge and Archive program copies "lot transactions and inspection records to an archive file" and purges completed lots' transaction details. A separate Serial File Purge program deletes serial numbers or serial transactions (help.syspro.com). Check whether either has run before you rely on LotDetail and InvSerialHead. See SYSPRO Lot and Serial Traceability Migration.
4. Open WIP is hard to move mid-production. Moving active jobs (WipMaster, WipJobAllMat, WipJobAllLab) is one of the riskiest parts of a SYSPRO migration. Close as many jobs as you can in SYSPRO before go-live, move closed jobs as history, and open new jobs in the target ERP. See SYSPRO WIP and Job History: Migrate or Archive.
5. Multi-company means multiple databases. Each SYSPRO company has its own database. Each one is a separate extraction with its own mapping and validation pass. Do not assume plus table layouts match across companies.
6. e.net integrations must be rewritten. Integrations that write to SYSPRO through business objects, such as APSTIN (AP invoice posting) or SORTOI (sales order import), must be rebuilt against the new ERP's APIs. Audit every external application that calls e.net before you start.
7. Exchange rates sit in their own tables. Currencies and exchange rates are in TblCurrency, and dated exchange rates are in TblCurrDatedRates (help.syspro.com). Extract them on purpose if you need historical rates.
8. Reports and mobile customisations do not carry over. Reports built in SYSPRO's reporting tools and any mobile screen customisations are rebuilt in the target platform. Document them before migration.
Cutover
Go live on a Monday, never on a Friday. Run the bulk load in the days before go-live while SYSPRO stays live. Freeze SYSPRO before Monday's working day starts. Then run a final delta of changed records only, which takes about 30 minutes. Run as many sample migrations as you need before the full run.
Pre-migration checklist
- List all SYSPRO companies and their SQL Server databases, plus the system-wide database
- Document custom form fields across all plus tables. This query lists them:
SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME LIKE '%[+]%' - Identify archived and live data, and decide what history to carry forward
- Check whether Purge and Archive, lot Purge and Archive, or Serial File Purge has run
- Export and document all custom reports and saved queries
- Catalogue all integrations, including every e.net business object in use
- Close as many open WIP jobs as possible before go-live
- Raise your data export with your SYSPRO account manager before your expiry date. SYSPRO's notice says "you have the right to export your data" on cessation of your licence (syspro.com)
For the full list, see the SYSPRO Exit Checklist.
Are There Open-Source Alternatives to SYSPRO?
Odoo calls itself "a suite of open source business apps" (odoo.com). If you self-host, you take on patching, backups, upgrades and security yourself. Expect to need an implementation partner for anything beyond basic configuration.
ERPNext is another open-source option. See SYSPRO to ERPNext.
Who should consider open source: teams with in-house developers, simple manufacturing (basic BOMs, basic lot tracking) and strong cost sensitivity. Who should not: manufacturers with complex lot traceability, multi-site operations, regulatory audits or limited IT capacity.
How to Choose the Right SYSPRO Alternative
Start from your main constraint:
- Choose Dynamics 365 Business Central if you run on Microsoft 365 and your production needs fit the Premium experience.
- Choose Acumatica if you have many light users and want cost tied to applications and resources, not seats.
- Choose Oracle NetSuite if you run several subsidiaries, currencies or tax jurisdictions and want one account for all of them.
- Choose SAP Business One if you are a small manufacturer or distributor that wants SAP, in the cloud or on-premise.
- Choose SAP S/4HANA Cloud if you are an enterprise manufacturer ready for a full SAP programme.
- Choose Infor CloudSuite Industrial if you want an industry-specific suite for industrial manufacturing.
- Choose Odoo if cost matters most, you have developers in-house, and your manufacturing is straightforward.
- Choose QAD Adaptive ERP if you are in automotive, life sciences, or food and beverage, and EDI and quality management are core.
- Choose an inventory app plus accounting software if you are a small operation that no longer needs a full manufacturing ERP.
Whichever you choose, prove your hardest processes in a demo with your own SYSPRO data before you sign. If you are comparing migration partners as well, see SYSPRO Migration Services: Choosing a Vendor-Neutral Partner.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the best alternative to SYSPRO?
- There is no single best alternative. Common shortlist names include Dynamics 365 Business Central, Epicor Kinetic, Acumatica, Oracle NetSuite, SAP Business One and Infor CloudSuite Industrial. Rank them on manufacturing fit, multi-company needs and deployment model. Then confirm each requirement against the vendor's own documentation and a demo with your own data.
- Is there a free or open-source alternative to SYSPRO?
- Odoo describes itself as "a suite of open source business apps" and offers a One App Free plan. Access to its external API is only available on the Custom plan, which matters if you plan to load SYSPRO data through the API. Check prices on the vendor's own pricing page.
- Can I migrate my data from SYSPRO to another ERP?
- Yes. SYSPRO 8 stores each company's data in its own Microsoft SQL Server database, and custom form fields sit in plus tables such as [ArCustomer+]. No target ERP has a native SYSPRO import, so data is extracted, transformed and loaded. SYSPRO's formal notice confirms you have the right to export your data when your licence ends.
- What happens if my SYSPRO licence expires before I have moved?
- SYSPRO's formal notice says that after your expiry date (31 October 2026 outside the US, 31 December 2026 in the US) you will no longer be able to access SYSPRO without a new subscription. Raise the data export with your SYSPRO account manager before your expiry date, and take your own read-only extract while you still have access.
- How long does it take to switch from SYSPRO?
- There are two clocks. The data migration itself typically takes 1 to 5 business days, depending on data volume, complexity and API rate limits. The ERP implementation (selecting, configuring and rolling out the new system) is a separate project measured in months, run by the vendor or an implementation partner.
- What do I lose when switching from SYSPRO?
- Data moves, configuration does not. Custom form definitions, reports, e.net integrations and user setups must be rebuilt in the new ERP. SYSPRO's own archiving writes purged sales orders, jobs and bills of materials to XML files outside the live tables, and lot Purge and Archive moves completed lot transactions out too, so check for archived history before you extract.
