On top of that, after March 28, 2029, Data Center products will become read-only and no longer receive support or updates. User and seat counts

For Confluence Cloud, monthly billing follows exact user count, but annual subscriptions are billed by tier. Key nuance: Microsoft 365 looks expensive in isolation, but if your organization already licenses M365 for email and productivity, the incremental cost of using SharePoint for documentation is near zero. Notion's Business tier is more expensive per-user than Confluence but eliminates Marketplace app costs and Guard fees, so the total-cost comparison can favor Notion for teams running heavy app stacks.

Do not compare only the base Confluence license against the target platform license. Apps, Guard, Rovo, automation rebuilds, and access-model changes usually determine the real outcome.

  • CCMA does not migrate all content types. Custom user-created templates, some Marketplace app data, and certain advanced permission configurations require manual handling or post-migration remediation.
  • Marketplace app compatibility gaps. Not all DC Marketplace apps have Cloud equivalents. Apps that rely on server-side file system access, custom Java plugins, or direct database queries may not have a Cloud-compatible version.   • Performance and storage model differences. DC allows self-managed infrastructure scaling. Cloud has attachment size limits (250MB per file), API rate limits, and storage quotas that vary by plan. Large attachment libraries may need restructuring.

Notion's importer treats most macros as unsupported and tries to map data to the nearest Notion block type. Confluence Cloud automation rules — triggered by page creation, label changes, or comment events — are not exportable and do not transfer to other platforms. Document every active automation rule, its trigger, and its action. Rebuilding these on the target platform is manual work.
