MIGRATION OVERVIEW

Why teams migrate from SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive

The core problem
Migrating from SurveySparrow Ticket Management (SparrowDesk) to Missive requires a fully custom API-based engineering effort, as no native migration path or built-in importer exists on either platform. The two systems operate on fundamentally different architectural models: SurveySparrow uses a flat, ticket-centric schema with explicit status enums, priority fields, and single-assignee ownership, while Missive is a conversation-centric collaborative inbox where state is expressed through mailbox placement and there is no native ticket, priority, or custom field construct. Data must be extracted ticket-by-ticket via SurveySparrow's v3 REST API (the v1 API was deprecated December 31, 2024), transformed to decompose flat ticket schemas into Missive's conversation model, and loaded one conversation at a time through Missive's Posts API or Messages API. Custom field values, priority, SLA timestamps, and parent-child ticket relationships all require explicit transformation logic, as Missive has no direct equivalents for these constructs.
Why this matters for your migration
KEY CHALLENGES

What makes this migration complex

These are the architectural mismatches and technical hurdles specific to a SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive migration.

Most Critical

No Bulk Import Endpoint

Missive has no bulk historical conversation import endpoint, requiring every migrated ticket to be created individually via POST /v1/posts or POST /v1/messages, which caps throughput at approximately 3,600 conversations per hour at a safe API cadence.

Blocks all downstream imports if mapped wrong

Ticket-to-Conversation Model Mismatch

SurveySparrow's flat ticket schema — including priority enums, status codes, SLA due dates, and custom fields — has no direct structural equivalent in Missive and must be encoded as shared labels, markdown-formatted post content, or conversation metadata during transformation.

Threaded Comment Reconstruction

The SurveySparrow ticket list endpoint does not include comment threads, requiring a separate GET /v3/tickets/:id/comments API call per ticket to retrieve replies before comments can be reconstructed as sequential posts within a Missive conversation.

Attachment Binary Handling

SurveySparrow ticket and comment payloads include attachment URLs rather than binary data, requiring all files to be downloaded during extraction before re-encoding as base64 for Missive's API, which enforces a 10 MB per-request payload limit and a maximum of 25 files per draft.

Agent and Contact Pre-Mapping Requirement

Missive will reject conversation assignments to non-existent user IDs, meaning a complete agent identity mapping table and contact book population must be completed and validated before the data load phase begins.

Parent-Child Ticket Relationship Loss

SurveySparrow supports parent-child ticket hierarchies via parent_ticket_id and child_ticket_ids fields, but Missive has no equivalent relational construct, requiring these relationships to be approximated through conversation merging, tasks, or explicit label tagging with associated data loss in hierarchy fidelity.

MIGRATION RISK ASSESSMENT

Every migration risk, already solved

Migration between platforms is full of edge cases. Our engineers have identified every risk from SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive and built proven solutions for each one.

High complexity
  • Threaded Comments / Replies
Comment threads require a separate API call per ticket to retrieve and must be reconstructed as sequential posts in Missive rather than native reply messages, meaning the original threading fidelity and public/internal comment distinction are not fully preserved.
    Solved
  • Attachments
Attachment URLs in SurveySparrow payloads may expire or require authentication headers during migration, and re-uploading via Missive's base64 API is constrained by a 10 MB per-request payload cap, creating a high risk of attachment loss for large or numerous files.
    Solved
  • Custom Fields
SurveySparrow custom fields are typed ticket-level objects with no equivalent construct in Missive, requiring all custom field values to be encoded as shared labels or flattened into post markdown content, resulting in loss of field type fidelity and queryability.
    Solved
  • SLA / Due Date Timestamps
SurveySparrow's first_response_due and resolution_due fields have no equivalent in Missive's data model and cannot be preserved in any native field, meaning SLA compliance history is lost unless explicitly encoded in post content or exported to a separate data store.
    Solved
  • Parent-Child Ticket Relationships
The parent_ticket_id and child_ticket_ids relational structure in SurveySparrow is not supported in Missive, and any approximation via labels or tasks requires custom logic with no guarantee of maintaining navigable hierarchical relationships.
    Solved
Custom engineering
  • Tickets (Core Records)
Individual ticket records can be extracted via GET /v3/tickets/:id and mapped to Missive conversations, but the one-at-a-time loading constraint and rate limits make large ticket volumes (5,000+) operationally risky without a well-tested idempotency strategy.
    Handled
  • Priority and Status Enums
SurveySparrow priority (Low, Medium, High, Urgent) and status (Open, Pending, Resolved, Closed) enums must be mapped to Missive shared labels and mailbox placement respectively, which requires a pre-defined label taxonomy and transformation rules to avoid data loss.
    Handled
  • Contacts / Requesters
Contact records must be created in a Missive contact book via a separately retrieved contact_book_id before conversations are loaded, and any missing or duplicate contact entries will block correct conversation attribution.
    Handled
  • Agent Assignments
Missive rejects assignments to user IDs that do not exist in the organization, so incomplete agent mapping — particularly for former employees or renamed accounts — will cause load failures or unassigned conversations.
    Handled
Clean transfer
  • Survey-Sourced Ticket Metadata
Tickets spawned from survey responses carry source and survey_id fields that are informational only and can be preserved in Missive post content as plain text without structural risk, though the linkage to the originating SurveySparrow survey is permanently severed.

What does an Engineer-led migration mean anyway?

Speed & Accuracy: Our Blended Method

We blend automation (smart scripts, bulk APIs) with human expertise for speed without risk. Our engineers manually check every mapping, validation, and exception.

You get:

  1. Speed of automation for bulk record migration
  2. Precision of engineers verifying integrity and business logic
  3. Pilot migrations and sandbox testing to catch issues early
  4. Real-time validation reports and rollback readiness
Result: 50x faster migrations than manual imports — with near-zero error rates.

Handling the Tricky Tech and API Details

The SurveySparrow Ticket Management and Missive APIs each behave differently, which is where our engineers shine. We build custom logic to handle the data quirks where generic tools typically break.

We handcraft API logic for:

  1. Field mapping and transformation
  2. Pagination, rate-limit handling, and throttling
  3. Preserving conversation threads, attachments, and internal notes
  4. Syncing custom fields, SLAs, and macros without breaking structure
Our scripts: Natively retry failed calls, re-queue large attachments, and ensure data parity.

No Guesswork

We don't just promise smooth migrations—we measure and prove them. Every client receives a Migration Validation Report with all metrics.

Typical results across projects:

  1. 100% record-count parity between your SurveySparrow Ticket Management data and Missive
  2. Zero downtime during staged cutovers

Before you start

5 questions
Do I need professional help for this migration?
Yes. Professional help ensures proper field mapping and preservation of relationships between records. Our engineer-led approach catches edge cases that automated tools miss.
Does ClonePartner provide guidance before committing?
Yes. We provide a free consultation and assessment. We'll review your data structure, discuss your requirements, and provide a detailed migration plan and fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.
Do you use an off-the-shelf tool to migrate from SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive, or is this built for our data?
It is built for your data. Each migration is a set of custom scripts written for your data model, not a generic import tool. That is also why we start with a sample migration: you see your own records in Missive before the full migration is committed.
Can we see a sample of our SurveySparrow Ticket Management data migrated to Missive before the full migration runs?
Yes. We run a sample migration on your own data first, so you can review how your records look in Missive before the full migration goes ahead. We run validation scripts to confirm the record counts match your source, and you check the sample against your source records; if a field is missing or mapped wrong, or anything else needs adjusting, we fix it in the migration scripts and re-run the sample as many times as you need. The full migration only runs after you've approved the sample. On projects delivered in phases, each phase gets its own sample migration for you to approve.
Do we need to keep our SurveySparrow Ticket Management account active during the migration?
Usually, yes. Keep it active until we confirm the migration is complete, including the final delta migration, because we read your data directly from your SurveySparrow Ticket Management account throughout the project. If your subscription is due to end mid-project, extending it to cover the migration window keeps everything on track, and we tell you when it is safe to cancel. If it has to close sooner, we can pull your data out before it closes and migrate from that copy.

Data & mapping

12 questions
Will the original assignees, message authors and created dates be preserved?
Yes. Created-time metadata is carried across, and so are assignees and message authors who have a user account in Missive. Where Missive cannot store one of them natively, it is kept as embedded metadata on the migrated record.
If the new system can't natively support an old record type, what are my options?
We handle it case by case. While mapping your data, we identify every record type without a direct counterpart in Missive, review sample records from it and propose how it can be represented, based on what Missive supports: map it to the closest native object, create a custom field or object, fold it into the parent record as text or a note, attach it as a file, or keep it in a read-only archive. You choose the approach, we write the migration scripts to place the data there, so it comes across in the form you choose instead of being left behind, and you see how it looks in a sample migration before we run the full set.
Can we choose which Missive inbox our SurveySparrow Ticket Management tickets go to?
Yes, where Missive's API lets us set a ticket's inbox. We map each SurveySparrow Ticket Management group to an inbox in Missive, so for example tickets from a Sales group land in your Sales inbox. If you want some tickets to land somewhere else, tell us during scoping and we build that mapping into the migration. If you want changes after go-live, we can re-run the scripts to move them.
Will the migration set off automations or send emails or notifications to customers, our team or anyone else?
No. Before the sample or full migration starts, we confirm with you that nothing in Missive will send messages about the migrated data: we import with notifications switched off wherever Missive allows it, and either pause any automation that could send them for the migration window or give it a condition, such as a suppression tag, that skips migrated records, which lets your live automations keep running for new records. We only proceed once you have confirmed it. If you want anyone told about the move, that message is sent separately, once the migrated data has been checked.
Can you migrate data that Missive can't take in through an API?
In many cases, yes. Where something can't be written through an API, we recreate it through Missive's user interface where the interface allows it, and where that work is repetitive we script and automate it. We tell you up front which items are handled this way, because recreating them through the interface can add time to the schedule.
What happens if Missive requires fields our SurveySparrow Ticket Management data doesn't have?
We check the destination for required fields your source data cannot fill and bring each one to you before those records are migrated. Together we agree how each one is handled, such as a mapping from an existing field, a default value, or, where Missive lets that field be made optional, setting it to not required for the migration so you can make it required again once the migration is complete. The migration then runs with that rule applied, so no records are rejected or left behind.
Do internal notes and system-generated notes from SurveySparrow Ticket Management migrate to Missive, or only customer-facing replies?
Internal notes can come across, and so can system-generated notes where SurveySparrow Ticket Management's API makes them available. During scoping you choose which notes to include, so Missive holds the history your team will actually use.
We use a lot of custom fields in SurveySparrow Ticket Management. Can you map them to Missive?
Where Missive has a place for them, yes. Each migration is a custom script written for your project, so your custom fields and structure are mapped to Missive's model rather than forced through an import template. Where field types differ, such as a value stored as text in SurveySparrow Ticket Management that Missive needs as a number, the script converts it. We agree the mapping with you and prove it on a sample migration before the full run.
Can you combine data from SurveySparrow Ticket Management and other support tools into one Missive account?
Yes. Each tool's data is extracted separately and written into the same Missive account. How records from the different tools fit together is settled in the data mapping before the build. The sample migration includes data from every source, so you can check the combined result before the full run.
Can our SurveySparrow Ticket Management internal notes be migrated into Missive?
Yes, for conversations whose emails are in a mailbox connected to Missive. Each note is attached to its matching conversation, which we find by the email's Message-ID, so any mailbox reconnections should be finished before the notes are migrated, since Missive rebuilds a mailbox's threads when it is reconnected. Notes may show the date they were migrated rather than their original date, so you check how they appear in the sample migration before the full run.
What can you migrate from SurveySparrow Ticket Management into Missive, such as email history, attachments and custom fields?
We migrate your contacts and labels into Missive, and internal notes where Missive's API allows it, while your email history and its attachments come in through the mailboxes you connect. Missive pulls in the email already in each connected mailbox itself, as far back as your Missive plan and email provider allow, so the migration adds what Missive can't fetch on its own, such as labels and notes, onto the matching conversations. Custom field values come across where Missive has a place for them. Anything Missive's API can't take, such as rules, is listed in the migration checklist so you know how each item will be handled.
Can you organize our labels in Missive into a parent/child hierarchy without losing data?
Yes. We can restructure your labels in Missive into a parent/child hierarchy without losing any data, and give you a count of the conversations under each label so you can check the result. If some labels belong to specific teams rather than the whole organization, we confirm with you first whether to keep them at team level, which means creating those teams first, or to move them all to the organization level.

Timeline & downtime

4 questions
How long does the SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive migration take?
Most migrations complete within 1–5 business days, depending on data volume and complexity; very large migrations, such as several hundred thousand records, take longer. We provide a detailed timeline after the initial assessment and can often complete small migrations in under 24 hours.
Will there be downtime when migrating from SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive?
No. Our migration process is designed for zero downtime. SurveySparrow Ticket Management stays fully operational throughout: the bulk migration runs in the background and the cutover is fast, so there is no disruption to your live business operations.
Our team has already started working in Missive. Can we still migrate our SurveySparrow Ticket Management history?
Yes. We take the exact date, time and time zone your team went live as the cutoff, and migrate the history up to that point, so the work already done in Missive is left as it is. That go-live moment separates the two systems' records, so we confirm it with you before anything runs.
How long does it take to export a very large ticket history from SurveySparrow Ticket Management?
Extraction time depends on volume: a history of more than half a million tickets can take several days to pull. Your SurveySparrow Ticket Management account needs to stay active until extraction is finished, so we confirm its end date with you at the start and plan the schedule around it.

Security & access

1 question
Can we whitelist a single IP instead of opening our network to your migration tool?
Yes. All migration traffic runs through a centralized system using one fixed IP, which your IT team can whitelist instead of opening broader network access.

Pricing

1 question
Is migration pricing a flat fee, or does it scale with data volume?
It's a flat fee with no hidden costs. The price we agree with you for your scope is the price you pay, and small variances in the final volume, a bit more or less, are included.

After go-live

6 questions
How do I validate that everything migrated correctly?
Every client receives a Migration Validation Report with comprehensive metrics including record-count comparison, attachment integrity verification via checksum, and full audit logs of the migration run, showing every record created, skipped or failed. If any item didn't come across, the report names each one, the specific reason, and how to bring it across if you want it there. We also offer unlimited sample migrations, so you can check your data before the full migration runs.
What support do you provide after the migration goes live?
At ClonePartner, we consider ourselves your partners in this journey. We take full accountability for your migration's success. Once your migration goes live, we provide 30 days of comprehensive post-migration support as standard, and longer support, such as 60 or 90 days, can be agreed for your project. During this period, we help with anything related to your migrated data, so your migration is a complete success.
Will we get a migration report and a mapping sheet linking old record IDs to new ones?
Yes. We provide a comprehensive migration report along with an ID-mapping sheet that links each old SurveySparrow Ticket Management record ID to its new ID in Missive. This ensures full traceability, simplifies post-migration verification, and helps your team validate that records have been migrated accurately.
After migration, do I contact ClonePartner or the platform's own support if something looks wrong?
ClonePartner is the contact for anything about the migrated data itself. Questions about the platform itself, such as how its features and settings work, go to the platform's own support or to whoever administers it for you.
Can we keep an offline archive of our old SurveySparrow Ticket Management data?
Yes. The archive is delivered to you as a set of local files: folders holding the ticket data and attachments, plus an HTML file that reads from those folders so you can browse tickets in a web browser. Nothing is hosted on our servers and there is no software to install, so you can store it wherever suits you, such as Google Drive or Box.
Can you keep our CRM updated with support activity after we move from SurveySparrow Ticket Management to Missive?
Yes, where Missive's API makes that activity available. We build an ongoing sync on Missive's and your CRM's APIs that writes support activity to the right contacts and companies, and you decide what gets logged. It is a separate piece of work from the migration, scoped and priced on its own.
